A. Quality seed production

• Production of adequate quantities of breeder seed as per national requirement and augmenting the availability of quality planting material in the country.
• Quality maintenance of nucleus and breeder seeds by employing dynamic maintenance breeding and rapid genetic purity testing tools.
• Identification of suitable provenance for offseason seed production to compensate the effects of changing climate.
• Identification of suitable seed provenance for institution of ‘National Seed Reserves’, with special emphasis on pulses & oilseeds in states of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
• Setting up of mechanized seed production & demonstration centres

B. Seed Technology Research

• Revisiting of field and seed standards in field crops and their harmonization in tune to the needs of international seed domain.
• Development of organic seed production technology in field crops.
• Development of climate resilient seed production technologies in field crops.
• Optimization of seed rate and planting system for minimising cost of production
• Application of QTLs/Markers in enhancing the quality of seed
• Development of universal scale for quantification of seed vigour.
• Development of controlled & target specific release coating technologies
• Development of seed health standards for important seed borne diseases.
• Monitoring of emerging diseases and development of serological and molecular diagnostics techniques.
• Development of chemical, biological and integrated strategies for management of seed borne diseases
• Integrated approaches for management of pulse beetle.
• Optimum sieve size and type of screen for grading seeds of new crop varieties

C. Technology dissemination

• Organization of demonstrations to exhibit newly developed technologies and varieties to farmers
• Skill intensification in the area of seed production and seed entrepreneurship development
