 Professional information:

Our lab studied the genetic and biochemical mechanisms that mediate Glycine max seed longevity. This includes not only phenotyping, genotyping, histology, and molecular breeding but also the characterization of the genes that are involved in Glycine max seed longevity.

Further, the current research focus is to understand the molecular mechanism of Glycine max seed-borne associated disease resistance.

 Current area of Research/Specialization:

  •  Development of kit for quick detection of Glycine max seed longevity and seed-borne associate pathogens
  • Characterization of genes responsible for Glycine max seed longevity and seed-borne associated disease resistance

 Ongoing Projects:

  • Co-PI: Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) funded project entitled “Development of cytoplasmic male sterile lines in onion (Allium cepa Lthrough targeted mutagenesis of AcMSH1 gene”).
  • PI: Improving Seed Health and Storage System (In-house project)
  • Co-PI: Basic and Strategic Research on Seed Quality Improvement (In-house project)
  • Co-PI: Seed quality assessment and enhancement technologies (In-house project)

 Awards/ Fellowships:

  • Mrs. Prem Kumari Singh Memorial Gold Medal 2010.
  • Qualified GATE (Life Science),2011 ,94 Percentile.
  • Qualified ICAR-NET (Agricultural Biotechnology) 2013.
  • Qualified UGC- CSIR JRF (Life Science), June 2013 (58thrank).
  • Qualified ICAR Senior Research Fellowship 3rd rank (Discipline Agriculture Biotechnology) for Ph.D.  ICAR(2014).
  • Qualified IARI Merit Fellowship for Ph.D.  IARI 4th rank (2014).

 Salient achievements:

  • Submitted a patent application to the Indian Patent Office titled “An assay for evaluating germination potential of Glycine max seeds and a kit for same”
  • Developed histological protocol for quick evaluation of seed viability of seeds
  • A large set of functionally relevant Alliums molecular markers resources consisting of 4142 molecular markers (ILP & CpSSR) created with successful amplification validation and cross –cross-transferability in related species
  • Identified Allium genotypes containing immunogenic memory against anthracnose by application of omics
  • Unraveled putative genes/loci responsible for high TSS of Allium cepa by genome-wide association and transcriptome analysis
  • Developed a technology entitled “Technology for virus-free garlic seed production”
